Villa am Rhein – Architektur im Dialog mit der Landschaft

In den Höhenlagen des Siebengebirges, auf dem Gelände des nördlichsten Weinbergs des Rheinlandes, wurde eine Villa aus dem Jahr 1967 umfassend renoviert und sensibel umgebaut. Das Grundstück – ehemals Basaltsteinbruch, heute Landschaftsschutzgebiet und teilweise Naturdenkmal – bietet eine eindrucksvolle Kulisse mit weitem Blick über das Rheintal. Die Vision des neuen Eigentümers war es, die architektonische Grundidee des Gebäudes zu bewahren und die Verbindung zur umgebenden Natur spürbar zu intensivieren. Unsere Planung setzte genau hier an.

Die Flachdächer des Erdgeschosses wurden zu großzügigen Terrassen umgestaltet, die vom Obergeschoss aus zugänglich sind und einen eindrucksvollen Panoramablick eröffnen. Großformatige Fensterflächen, die sich teilweise vollständig öffnen lassen, holen das Landschaftspanorama direkt in den Innenraum. Bestehende Natursteinwände wurden freigelegt oder bewusst erhalten, um den Charakter des Ortes zu betonen. In einem ehemaligen Abstellraum im Untergeschoss tritt das Gestein des Hangs sichtbar zutage. Heute beherbergt dieser Ort den neuen Weinkeller – ein atmosphärischer Raum, der die geologische Herkunft des Hauses unmittelbar erlebbar macht.

In the heights of the Siebengebirge, on the site of the northernmost vineyard in the Rhineland, a villa dating from 1967 has been extensively renovated and sensitively remodelled. The property - formerly a basalt quarry, now a landscape conservation area and partly a natural monument - offers an impressive backdrop with sweeping views over the Rhine Valley. The new owner's vision was to preserve the basic architectural idea of the building and to noticeably intensify the connection to the surrounding nature. This is exactly where our planning came in.

The flat roofs of the ground floor were transformed into spacious terraces, which are accessible from the upper floor and offer an impressive panoramic view. Large windows, some of which can be fully opened, bring the landscape panorama directly into the interior. Existing natural stone walls have been exposed or deliberately preserved to emphasise the character of the location. In a former storage room in the basement, the rock of the slope is visible. Today, this space houses the new wine cellar - an atmospheric room that brings the geological origins of the building to life.
